Getting Here

SanJuanicoSan Juanico is located in Baja California Sur, Mexico, about 2 days drive south of San Diego.

Flying and Car Rental:
Baja Sur can be accessed by flying into one of the major airports in either Loreto (LTO), La Paz (LAP) or Los Cabos (SJD). Rental cars are available at all three airports. San Juanico is approximately 7 hours north of Los Cabos, 4.5 hours north of La Paz, and 3.5 hours west of Loreto.

Driving Directions:
The old adage “Don’t drive at night in Mexico” is particularly true when driving to San Juanico owing to the cavernous potholes and ever present livestock. For your safety, we highly recommend you heed this warning, however, if you must drive at night, please be extra vigilant.

From the South (La Paz & Los Cabos):
Most people coming from the Los Cabos area head north on MEX 19 to La Paz (about 3 hours). Once in La Paz, continue north on MEX 1 until you reach Insurgentes (about 2.5 hours). At Insurgentes, continue north on HWY 53 to Zaragosa (approx. 10 minutes north), the last opportunity to purchase gasoline before you reach San Juanico. Continue on HWY 53 for about 1 hour keeping an eye for kilometer marker 88. You’ll know you’re close to the turn off to San Juanico when the road makes a sudden curve to the right. There will be a dilapidated metal water tower to your left and a green highway sign indicating San Juanico to your right. Turn left and head west. Just before reaching Las Barrancas you will see a tienda on your right hand side with a large Tecate sign. Turn right and follow this road until you reach San Juanico about 40 minutes later.

From the East (Loreto):
Driving from Loreto, head south on MEX 1 about 1.5 hours until you reach Insurgentes.

From the North (California):
If you are driving from California, head south on MEX 1. At San Ignacio (approx. 12 hours from the border), many people opt to take the “North Road” which can potentially save some time. However, if you’ve not driven it before or are in a vehicle without significant ground clearance and at least all wheel drive, we don’t recommend it because there is the very real possibility of getting lost or stuck. Instead, continue south on Mex 1 4 hours to Loreto and then follow the preceding directions from Loreto.
